Clinical Supervisor (14 hours/week)
CMHA NORTH AND WEST VANCOUVER

We are seeking a part-time experienced Clinical Counsellor to provide individual counselling support to adult clients, and to supervise counselling practicum students. Reporting to the Manager Community Counselling Services, the Clinical Supervisor will join a team of Registered Clinical Counsellors and interns and will divide their time between counselling clients (in person and virtually), supervising interns (in person) and participating in the organization’s meetings and shared activities.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide brief one-to-one counselling therapy to adults, using appropriate therapeutic and/or psycho-educational models. Must be comfortable in both in-person and virtual modalities.

2. Supervise practicum interns. This includes:

  • Interviewing applicants and selecting 2-4 new students every 8-10 months
  • Providing interns with weekly in-person supervision, both indirect (discussing therapy) and direct (listening/watching therapy sessions) supervision.
  • Co-facilitating (with the counselling manager) bi-weekly group supervision meetings for the interns and counsellors.
  • Evaluating interns in accordance with the requirements of their university (written and in person evaluations).

3. Provide regular individual clinical supervision to the counsellors working for CMHA.

4. Provide clinical supervision to other CMHA programs as needed (e.g. WorkBC counsellor, Bi-polar support group facilitator, Trauma Group Facilitator at Recovery College YVR).

5. Receive peer supervision from Manager Community Counselling as needed

6. Timely file management including completion of client evaluations and progress notes. Ensure and maintain confidentiality of clients and their clinical files.

7. Attend staff meetings with CMHA

8. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counselling psychology
  • Current registration with a professional body, e.g. BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
  • Minimum 5 years of counselling experience post registration.
  • Training and demonstrated experience working with evidence informed treatment approaches suited to short term therapy (e.g. CBT, DBT, Solution Focused, IFS, EMDR, MI). Both in person and in a virtual capacity.
  • Familiarity with MS Office, and facility in learning custom/complex software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of resources related to mental health and anti-oppression practice.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills and able to relate to a diverse range of people.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR are conditions of employment.
  • Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or able to provide a vaccination exemption from the Provincial Health Officer.
  • Knowledge of North Shore Community Services is an asset.
  • Clinical supervision training/experience is an asset.

Hours of Work and Special Considerations:

Location of work: 2030 Marine Drive, North Vancouver, BC.

Hours: 2 days per week, 7.5 hours per day, which includes an unpaid 30-minute lunch break.

Start Date: April 1, 2024

Wage Range: $36-$40 /hour depending on experience.
