Met is looking for a Children & Youth Coordinator to support this mission for children and youth.

The Position
The Children & Youth Coordinator works under the supervision of the Minister of Worship & Faith Formation and reports to the Executive Director.

The primary responsibilities of this role:

  • Organize and run Sunday School and Youth Group programming
  • Prepare lesson plans and materials
  • Host monthly family events
  • Recruit and support volunteers
  • Attend staff and ministry team meetings as required
  • Prioritize outreach and growth: connecting with families in the congregation and wider community, inviting new participation, building ministry visibility
  • Explore potential cooperation with Met’s music ministry for children
This position involves 12 hours per week of work. Presence at Metropolitan on Sunday mornings and for other events is mandatory. Other preparatory work can be completed either on site or off site with approval.

Primary Qualifications & Skill Requirements
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • Ability to connect authentically and build rapport with children, youth, parents, volunteers, and church staff.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication for teaching, leading discussions, creating promotional materials, and reporting.
  • Leadership and Program Development:
    • Ability to plan, organize, and lead engaging and age-appropriate programs, activities, and events
    • Creativity in developing curriculum and activities that foster spiritual growth, faith exploration, and leadership skills.
  • Organizational and Administrative Skills:
    • Strong time management and prioritization skills to manage multiple programs and responsibilities.
    • Attention to detail in ensuring compliance with church policies, especially regarding child safety
  • Theological Understanding and Faith Commitment:
    • A good understanding of the theology and philosophy of the United Church of Canada.
    • A demonstrated commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment, aligning with the United Church's "Affirming" theology (supportive of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals).
A current Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSC) will be required from the successful candidate.

Remuneration
$29/hour. This position will begin in mid-August for preparatory time and will last until June 2026. Contract renewal is possible.
