The Dais and the Democratic Engagement Exchange at Toronto Metropolitan University are building a team of people to increase voter turnout on campuses across Ontario - will you join us?
We want to address a critical challenge: the record-low voter turnout in Ontario’s last provincial election and the ongoing decline in youth participation.
In 2025, we will launch a brand new initiative to visit college and university campuses across Ontario to inspire students to vote! We are hiring 5 Campaign Managers, 10 Campus Engagement Leaders, and 50 Voting Ambassadors to help make it easier for young people to get involved in voting, and to build a strong culture of democratic participation that continues beyond the next election. To learn about all of the roles in this project, visit dais.ca/jobs/elections-project/.
The ten Campus Engagement Leaders will work directly on college and university campuses, organizing and attending events to inspire students to vote. You’ll be the face of this project, speaking to thousands of students to encourage them to register to vote. This fast-paced role requires excellent time management and execution skills to meet tight deadlines and manage a busy workload.
You'll join one of five regional groups, each focused on voter engagement within a specific geographic area of Ontario:
-
North: Covering Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, North Bay, and Sudbury
-
East: Covering Peterborough, Belleville, Kingston, and Ottawa
-
West: Covering Windsor, Sarnia, Kitchener, London, St. Catharines, Niagara, Guelph, and Waterloo
-
GTA East: Covering Toronto, Oshawa, and Barrie
-
GTA West: Covering Toronto, Hamilton, Mississauga, and Brampton
Join us today if you're ready to inspire change and strengthen democratic participation!
What You'll Do:
- Attend a one-day in-person training session in Toronto on Wednesday, February 19. Travel and accommodation will be provided for those travelling from outside the GTHA.
- Plan and lead campus voter engagement events, including staffing booths alongside another Campus Engagement Leader and Voting Ambassadors.
- Manage event logistics and track student participation metrics.
- Work with Voting Ambassadors (current students) to ensure outreach consistency and on-brand messaging.
- Provide feedback to improve engagement strategies and tactics.
- Represent the project professionally and remain non-partisan.
What You'll Bring:
- An extremely confident and outgoing personality and love for speaking with new people.
- Experience volunteering on a campaign or doing community engagement work.
- Skills in mentoring junior staff and adapting to unexpected challenges.
- Familiarity with Ontario university campuses (a strong connection to at least one is an asset).
- Passion for voter engagement and the ability to work nonpartisally.
- Access to a car and the ability to travel daily between campuses is essential. Mileage is reimbursed at $0.57 per kilometre.
- Capacity to stand for several hours and lift up to 30 pounds as part of event setup and execution.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset for East Ontario and North Ontario roles.
