Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends
You will be working with priority populations, people living with HIV and AIDS, the Indigenous, First Nation and Metis, gay, bisexual, pansexual and other men who have sex with men, people who use/d intravenous drugs, the incarcerated, migrant workers and women and youth connected to these populations in a variety of settings.
Responsibilities
1. Leadership

Leads and coordinates the delivery of Black, Caribbean and African Communities Education/Prevention programs and events.

Actively seek out opportunities to promote the program within the Black, Caribbean and African communities.

Recruit volunteers from the Black, Caribbean and African communities to assist with program delivery on Advisory Council.
-
Designs and implements a program workplan including guidelines for the delivery of the ACCHO Strategy.

Oversees the development and implementation of a regular evaluation process for all African/Caribbean Education/Prevention Programs.

Coordinates the identification of African/Caribbean education/prevention service user needs through consultation.

Coordinates and participates in community development and outreach with target groups of African/Caribbean Education/Prevention Programs.
2. Education/Prevention
In collaboration with the Manager of Education:
- Leads and coordinates Black, African, Caribbean AIDS prevention activities in the community.

Creates community print materials around Black/African/Caribbean HIV/AIDS and advocates for change when necessary and appropriate.

Develops programs campaigns and curriculum for the education and prevention programs at ACDR which align with the ACCHO Strategy.

Develops and facilitates workshops and presentations on issues of HIV/AIDS prevention and sexual health for the Black, African & Caribbean communities.

Develops evaluation tools for education/prevention activities.
-
Develops and facilitates agency wide Black History Month activities.
3. Community Relations/Social Marketing
-
Develops and coordinates the promotion of Black/African/Caribbean educational services and programs.
-
Ensures the writing, production and distribution of Black/African/Caribbean promotional pamphlets, newsletters and other materials.
-
Seeks appropriate public speaking engagements and other opportunities to promote the services and programs of ACDR.

To stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement and create meaningful change to protect Black lives in Durham Region and beyond.

Monitor al BACCO related social media accounts.
4. Urban, Sub-Urban and Rural Outreach
-
Engages and attends all appropriate festivals, fairs, demonstrations and celebrations and events.

Engages with newcomers to Canada through the Welcome centers in Ajax & Pickering and other community organizations that serve Black communities.

Develops and maintains healthy relations with community partners, faith-based organizations, and newcomer networks;
-
Work alongside the Migrant Worker Solidarity Program staff and co-create Migrant Worker Health Fairs in Durham Region; with a focus on Caribbean and Black workers.

Engage community agencies which are likely to influence the health and well-being of clients and community members and community-based networks;

Enhance and maintain relationships with stakeholders for Black Community and Migrant Worker Health Fairs.
Qualifications
-
Post-secondary education in adult education, health promotion, social sciences or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Minimum one-year experience in the field of education/prevention.
-
Strong knowledge of health promotion and community development philosophies and strategies.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-
Demonstrated experience in public speaking.
-
Knowledge of community services.
-
Knowledge of HIV/AIDS in Canada.
-
Demonstrated knowledge in adult education.
-
Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating education programs.
-
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, board and diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge of and connection to the Black, Caribbean and African communities in Durham Region.

Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
