We work with and provide crisis support services, counselling (individual and group), advocacy, accompaniment, and support services for survivors of sexual violence and their families/support people.

We work with and provide crisis and support services via 24/7 phone and chat, counselling (individual and group), anti-violence advocacy, accompaniment, and support services for survivors of sexual violence and their families/support people. Summary of Role

The Awareness and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the communications strategy, plan and implementation of the organization’s communications including social media, monthly newsletter, e-communications platforms and donor communications. Within their administrative role, the ACC will support grant documentation and fulfilment tracking, organizational statistic gathering, staff meetings and general organizational admin needs. The ACC will coordinate the Marketing and Social Media - develops, designs, and executes communications to promote DRCC resources, fundraising, and awareness activities. This individual will serve as a passionate ambassador for DRCC, engaging new audiences and cultivating existing relationships through social media, email, print materials, and the DRCC website.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Plan, create and schedule social media content relevant to our work and mission, in league with key dates, community development needs and service updates.  Including creating psycho-educational content.
  • Work with a variety of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as Spotify, Pinterest and (Hootsuite, Mail Chimp, WordPress/Website updates, Canva)
  • Create monthly newsletter updating clients and community about DRCC updates, programs, volunteer opportunities, a variety of awareness months, and relevant news
  • Support donor management with communications through the creation of thank you letters, and maintaining an up to do donor pipeline
  • Support grant writing as needed, including tracking deadlines, and researching potential funding sources
  • Ensure that grant deliverables are being met, and appropriate action is assigned.
  • Oversee bi-monthly staff meeting, take and transcribe minutes and notes of team meetings, and share with staff, and guest speaker schedules.
  • Support regular annual events such as Take Back the Night (September Awareness March)
  • Prepare Annual Report ahead of the Annual General Meeting (typically June)
  • Support administrative/scheduling and fundraising needs for the Bingo Fundraising initiative.  
  • Collaborating with the Manager and Executive Director, to implement innovative communications/promotional strategies, including social media, e-communications, and targeted marketing/awareness/fundraising.
  • Designing print and digital marketing assets that are on-brand and engaging for various target demographics.
  • Developing and implementing a marketing strategy that aligns with business goals.
  • Overseeing all DRCC social media accounts.
  • Creating engaging content (e.g., original text, photos, and videos) for DRCC communications.
  • Building trend reports and identifying data-driven tactics to grow DRCC’s reach.
  • Responding to constituent queries in a timely manner.
  • Suggesting and implementing new strategies to develop brand awareness.
  • Staying up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools, and applications.
  • Providing support as needed for thank you calls, maintaining accurate information in the RE database, and assisting with DRCC events.

Job Duties

General Staff Duties:
  • Maintain a daily appointment calendar for the role, including managing vacation/lieu time requests, and designating self-care hours.
  • If required, complete expense reports and other financial administration duties.
  • Present a positive and professional attitude (virtually and in person) to all visitors, suppliers, inquiries, and other interactions.
  • Participate in regular supervision with direct manager, or Management/Executive team, as required, including an annual review.
  • Participate in annual professional development and organizational training, both individually and as a team, with goals to be determined collaboratively.
  • In coordination with your role, monthly/quarterly or as needed, statistical reporting.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, employee engagement initiatives, and strategic planning, signature events.
  • Be educated on, aware of, and adhere to agency policies and procedure
Qualifications and Skill Sets:

We are looking for:
  • Preference will be given for candidates who are local to Durham Region.
  • Professional experience with social media content creation.
  • Experience with grant writing, fundraising/fund development.
  • Well-developed skills in areas such as communication, documentation, organization, teamwork, confidentiality, ethics, analysis, critical thinking, and time management.
  • A theoretical and practical knowledge about Gender-Based Violence (sexual and gender-based violence including recent sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, human trafficking, rape culture, etc.)
  • Ability to demonstrate and practice from an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppressive and intersectional perspective.
  • Experience using a feminist approach.
Qualifications:
  • University degree, bachelor’s degree, college diploma and/or related experience
  • Experience in graphic design and social media/digital marketing.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office applications proficiency.
  • Experience with fundraising databases
  • Familiarity with web design using WordPress.
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, image, and video).
  • Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics.
  • Experience using Adobe Suite.
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
  • Flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events.
