The Athletics Co-ordinator plays a key role in delivering an exceptional athletics experience for our students. This multifaceted role provides comprehensive administrative and coordination support across our competitive and instructional athletics programs, ensuring a positive, well-organized, and inclusive environment for all student-athletes. Beyond administrative duties, the Athletics Coordinator will be an active member of our swim coaching team and contribute significantly to our Junior School aquatics programs, including lifeguarding and swim instruction.
What You’ll Do:
- Assists in the organization, and execution of athletic events, practices, and competitions, for athletics programs across the school, such as; weekly game schedules, arrangements for coaches, referees, timekeepers, and transportation, equipment and uniforms inventory and distribution, hosting on-site events and payments for game/tournament officials.
- Helps manage athletic program communications to students, parents, and employees, including myBSS Athletics Team pages.
- Maintains accurate records of student participation, attendance, and achievements in athletic programs.
- Updates and distributes sport guidelines, OPHEA standards, emergency contact details, first aid kits, keys and equipment at the start of each term for all coaches.
- Supports the High Performing Athlete Program (HPAP) with program planning, scheduling, bookings, event planning, data tracking, and communication to parents and athletes.
- Supports the Lang Scholar Program, recognizing leadership potential in student athletes, with the application process, communications, bookings and program planning.
- Assists with swim team practices, attends swim meets and serves as an assistant coach as needed.
- Assists with curricular swim instruction and supervision for students in Grades JK to 6 during Physical Education classes, planning with the Junior School Physical Education team and providing student feedback.
- Leads the swim test process for students going on overnight trips that require a swim test.
- Reinforces pool safety, water safety standards and facility procedures, ensuring first aid kits are up-to-date.
- Schedules lifeguards and keep qualifications records of swim staff in the school in the pool.
- Prepares pool deck equipment for each class and supervises the change room.
- Creates and shares an annual pool schedule.
- Conducts facility inspections and advises facility staff of any maintenance issues.
Who You Are:
- Experience in administrative support and program coordination, preferably within an educational or athletic setting.
- Current NL, Swim Instructors, Standard First Aid and CPR certificates. NCCP Swimming Certification would be an asset.
- Certified to run and evaluate LSS courses and certifications is an asset, but not required.
- Experience in instructing swimming, particularly with school-aged children and adolescents.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and coaches.
