STEPS Public Art is a Canadian charity and social enterprise. We offer services in public art management, hoarding exhibits, cultural planning, and artist capacity building. We run charitable programs that support artists and foster vibrant and inclusive communities. Our main office is based in the Ancestral Wendat territory and the shared territory of the Anishinaabeg and the Haudenosaunee, covered by The Dish With One Spoon treaty, and later, Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. The Opportunity

STEPS Public Art is seeking a motivated co-op student or early-career professional to support the growth and optimization of our Artist & Supplier Database. This unique role will involve working directly with STEPS’ Operations Team to streamline processes and enhance the functionality of a Salesforce-based database that improves the selection of artists and suppliers such as fabricators and installers for public art projects nationwide. This is an excellent opportunity for students in information science, marketing, cultural management, nonprofit management, business, or operations who are interested in gaining hands-on experience with database management and the inner workings of a nonprofit arts organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Management & Analysis: Assist in building and updating artist profiles, including linking contact history and project-specific information to improve the accuracy and completeness of our records
  • Database Development: Collaborate with the Operations Team to create a supplier database in Salesforce, modeling it on the existing artist database, and incorporating data from recent supplier outreach and applications
  • Process Optimization: Support the team in designing a database maintenance plan and improve the overall search functionality to streamline project workflows
  • User Experience & Training: Provide input on database usability to enhance the user experience for STEPS staff. Participate in staff training sessions on best practices for using the Salesforce database
  • Collaborative Projects: Work with cross-functional teams to ensure that the database serves diverse needs, including artist outreach, supplier engagement, and project management
Qualifications and Skills
  • Enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution (eligible for Eco Canada funding; no more than 30 years old at the start of the placement)
  • Background in information science, marketing, cultural management, nonprofit management, business, operations, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills with experience in managing information systems, data, or databases (Salesforce or other CRM experience is an asset but not required)
  • Interest in public art, nonprofit operations, and project management
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to work independently and contribute thoughtfully in a hybrid team environment
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hours: 15-30 hours per week (240-500 hours total) with flexible scheduling to meet co-op requirements
  • Compensation: $17.20 per hour
