The Opportunity:

beyond 3:30 is a unique initiative that provides after school programming focused on healthy living and learning opportunities in the arts for middle school children, Monday-Friday in one of the places they trust the most, their local school.  It supports priority communities through innovative partnering between a wide variety of local community organizations and corporations. beyond 3:30 is operating in 18 select middle-school locations across the city.

At each site, Recreation Staff plans and facilitates a wide-range of physical activities, games and special events, in collaboration with Site Coordinator, and assists with other aspects of beyond 3:30 programming. 

At each site, the Recreation Staff is accountable to their Site Coordinator and responsible for the following:

Responsibilities:
  • Create & coordinate efficient operation of the physical & recreational component of the program
  • Prepare and submit weekly program plans to Site Coordinator
  • Incorporate the development of participants’ sense of fair play, friendly competition, skill building, fitness and fun into program planning.
  • Demonstrate and implement proactive problem-solving, conflict mediation, and behaviour management skills that engage participants, and when incidents do occur to secure timely resolutions
  • Implement a safe, fun and educational program that is accessible to all participants
  • Serve as a role model in conduct and character for participants in high priority communities 
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Kinesiology; Diploma in Recreation; Child & Youth Work; Community Work, or Related Fields (Students in these programs are welcome to apply!)
  • Experience in recreational program planning and delivery.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated exceptional skills in program facilitation, group dynamics, and effective guidance and discipline techniques with middle-school age children
  • Positive and culturally competent attitude toward working with youth in priority neighbourhoods
  • Experience working with BIPOC communities is an asset
  • Ability to work effectively with a team environment
  • Understanding of school board operations and procedures is an asset.
  • Must have first aid and HIGH FIVE training or are willing to obtain them shortly after being hired.
  • Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check (VSS), upon hiring.
