Job Title: After-School Program Coordinator

Position type: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Supervisor: Reports to Program Manager

Hourly Rate of pay: $28/hourĀ 

About Success Beyond Limits (SBL)

Our focus is to reduce the impact of external factors that negatively affect the educational success of youth in Jane-Finch. We operate a year roundĀ program that offers credits, mentorship, youth employment, enrichment, nutrition, engagement, graduation, and relationship building. We also operate a Youth Space within Westview Centennial Secondary School. Through this space, our staff support youth during the school day, run an after-school program, and connect youth to an array of diverse opportunities.

Program Overview

Our After School Program runs daily throughout the school year, Monday to Friday. The program provides youth with a great range of supports, and enrichment activities including: tutoring, mentorship, nutrition, physical activity, arts-based activities, workshops & field trips. The program is based out of the Success Beyond Limits Youth Space in Westview C.S.S, and utilizes a wide-range of facilities in the building (including the dance studio, gym, pool, kitchen, and weight room).

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of related work experience coordinating youth programming and/or a post- secondary degree related to this field
  • Understanding of the Jane and Finch community and/or similar communities in Toronto
  • Commitment to youth-led and youth-focused principles
  • Proactive, solution seeking, flexible, and creative
  • Appreciation and dedication to the power of mentorship
  • Experience supporting and encouraging youth
  • Familiarity with best-practices for after-school programming
  • Organized self-starter
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills and able to engage a large group of youth
  • Proficient using Google Suite (Docs, Spreadsheets, Drive) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Primary Tasks and Outcomes:

After School:

  • Deliver a vibrant after-school program that includes: nutrition, recreation, mentorship, tutoring, and field trips
  • Coordination with partners, facilitators, Westview department staff to deliver high-quality programs and experiences
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with parents
  • Working closely with tutors and placement students
  • Provision of a healthy snack daily
  • Tracking of daily attendance and all other related reporting requirements
  • Provide dispute resolution assistance, as necessary, seeking win-win outcomes and emphasizing teachable moments
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are met
  • Assist the Program Manager in gathering feedback on the program from various stakeholders and responding to that feedback

Mentorship:

  • Ensure youth Mentors are providing leadership in program delivery and mentorship of younger students
  • Serve as the primary support for mentors in the after-school program
  • Assist with generating agenda items, facilitation and positive mentor attendance at weekly mentor meetings
  • Provide necessary guidance, supervision, and resources to program mentors

Organization Related:

  • Assist Program Manager with tasks and reporting as needed
  • Operate in the SBL youth space as a friendly, welcoming presence, prepared to respond to needs as they arise
  • Collaborate with SBL staff members to ensure program goals are met (and surpassed) and youth input is incorporated
  • Develop action plans for students, which will vary depending on reports from teacher meetings
  • Advocacy work re: mentees, volunteers and mentors
  • Support the development and delivery of march break and summer programs
