The Manager of Accounting is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the accounting function, ensuring the integrity of financial data, compliance with funding agreements, and adherence to accounting standards and regulations. This role plays a key part in the financial operations of the agency, working closely with the finance team, program managers, external auditors, and funding partners.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit environment with government-funded programs is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in fund accounting and managing multi-source funding.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP (ASPE/NFP standards).
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Account Edge, Sage, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and funder requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting, including internal dashboards and funder-specific reports.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (ASPE/NFP), CRA regulations, and funder-specific guidelines.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of annual external audits and financial reviews.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Track and report on the financial performance of funded programs.
  • Collaborate with program staff to prepare budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial compliance.
  • Maintain funder reporting schedules and ensure timely and accurate submission of financial reports.
  • Supervise and support accounting staff, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and collaboration within the finance team.
  • Optimize accounting systems, processes, and tools for efficiency and scalability.
  • Lead the implementation or upgrade financial software as needed.

Organizational Responsibilities 

  • Adheres to all YES policies and procedures and ensures confidentiality is maintained on client, personnel, financial and agency matters
  • Represents YES at all times in a professional manner
  • Participates in regular supervision meetings
  • Attends all staff meetings
  • Works cooperatively with other team members
  • Carries out any other duties, as required
Salary:                  $75,000 – $85,000

Position:              Manager, Accounting

Location:             555 Richmond St. W, Toronto, ON

Hours of Work:  40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday: 9 – 5; Friday: 9-4.00 Hybrid work schedule
