About the Organization:
The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle is a regional social planning and development organization. The BANAC service region covers Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the northern York Region. BANAC works in cooperation with communities in areas of concern where coordinated efforts are required to meet the needs which positively impact the region. BANAC will continue in this social planning capacity, offering consultation and support for our community development. BANAC offers many innovative programs and services including Alternative Dispute Resolution, Family Wellness, Childcare, Seniors Care and Long-Term Care, Cultural Services, and wholistic Healthcare Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounts Payable Clerk reports to the Finance Manager or designate and is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical services. This includes processing and monitoring payments and controlling expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices and statements in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
ACCOUNTING CLERK POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process outgoing payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures
- Perform day-to-day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable data
- Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services
- Verify and investigate discrepancies if any
- Manage the weekly cheque run
- Prepare vendor cheques for mailing
- Record all cheques
- Record all expenses and allocate them to appropriate programs, this includes visa transactions, invoices, cheque requisitions
The ideal candidate will be a skilled, culturally safe with strong attention to detail and organizational skills, a positive attitude that respects Indigenous knowledge and who is at ease balancing competing priorities and meeting staff and vendor priorities.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years finance experience full cycle of accounts payable experience or directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Previous experience working within the Indigenous community, combined with knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and Indigenous cultural practices.
- Proven working experience as Accounts Payable Clerk
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable principles.

Information About Working at BANAC:
- Work is typically performed in clinic, office, and community settings.
- Regular travel to meetings and communities will be required – vehicle an asset.
- Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement.
- Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar.

- Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector.
