Role Overview
- Full-time permanent position (40 hours per week)
- Monday-Friday with some flexibility; some evening and weekend commitments
- Compensation: 50k-60k, plus full benefits after 3 months (including extended health, dental, vision, pension & 4 weeks of vacation)
- Reports to: Director of Finance
- Start date: February 2025
We are seeking a detail-oriented professional for the role of accounting analyst, to perform a variety of record keeping duties associated with processing and analyzing accounting transactions: serve as lead over functions as accounts payable and receivables, reconciling cash, compilation of fiscal data, payroll and preparation of financial reports.
Responsibilities
Day-to-day Accounting
- Responsible for all day-to-day accounting functions with corresponding journal entries, for AP (payments, invoices, expense reports, credit cards) and Revenue (deposits, donations, facility rentals, camp registrations, other events)
- Ensures all donations are recorded in our donor management system and in our accounting system and perform reconciliations regularly
Financial Reporting and Compliance
- Prepare month-end and year-end financial statements and analyses for our ministry team leaders and committees, including month end balance sheet reconciliations and budget variance reports
- Support the annual audit of our financial statements including year-end supporting package and requests by the auditors
- Support the annual operating budget process including the preparation and review of various ministry budgets and the management approval package
- Prepare financial, tax and other key regulatory filings in compliance with CRA and other regulatory requirements, including T3010, denominational filings, donation and camp tax receipts and HST filings
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations, CRA guidelines for charities, and all other applicable regulations
Payroll
- Perform accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll runs for all employees and prepare payroll journal entries
- Implement changes in pay as required
- Prepare payroll-related remittances including monthly WSIB and pension contributions
- Assist the Director of Finance with the administration of our group benefits and pension programs
Maintain detailed payroll records as required, for audit purposes, for the CRA, and for internal HR - Prepare payroll-related compliance items including T4s, and WSIB and EHT returns
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting / Finance / Business, or equivalent education and experience
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (AP / AR / GL / payroll), preferably in a charitable organization or not-for-profit environment
- Must be proficient in accounting software (ie. Quickbooks)
- General computer proficiency - Windows, GSuite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), and MS Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication skills, able to write correspondence in a professional manner, with proficiency in English
- Identify and maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Aware and knowledgeable of secure internet usage, ability to identify scams and phishing attacks
- Work effectively as part of a team devoted to customer service
- Model and advocate for Christian stewardship of resources
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
