Accountant - Youth Employment Services YES
Position - Accountant
Location - 555 Richmond Street West
Kindly note that we are temporarily operating via a hybrid model of in-office and remote work

Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Accountant will support the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with Accounting standards, regulatory requirements and donor restrictions. The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports and supporting external audits. The ideal candidate has a strong background in Accounting with previous work experience in a non-profit environment.
Summary of Responsibilities
Financial Management
· Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable
· Assist with budget preparation, monitoring and variance analysis
· Assist in payroll processing and ensure proper documentation of employee compensation and benefits
· Reconcile bank accounts and donor accounts monthly
· Collaborate with the Fundraising team to reconcile donations and track revenue
Budgeting and Reporting
· Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
· Develop and monitor budgets in collaboration with Management team
· Generate reports for grant funding, donor requirements and government compliance
Compliance and Auditing
· Ensure compliance with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and other regulatory bodies, including assisting with the preparation of annual T3010 and HST filings.
· Support external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations
· Maintain accurate records of restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring adherence to donor restrictions
Organizational and Other Duties
· Respond to financial inquiries from staff and other stakeholders
· Stay updated on changes in non-profit accounting standards and regulatory requirements
· Adhere to all YES policies and procedures and ensure confidentially is maintained on clients, personnel, financial and agency matters.
· Represent YES at all times in a professional manner.
· Participates in regular supervision meetings;
· Works cooperatively with other team members;
· Other duties as required

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- CPA designation or working towards is an asset
- Minimum of 2 years full-cycle Accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit or charitable sector
- Proficiency in Accounting software (Account edge or similar)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial tools
- Familiarity with CRA guidelines for charities, including tax receipting and annual filings
- Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now platform
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
