About Student Voice

Student Voice is a platform that gives Canadian youth a voice in the school-to-work transition.

Over the next three months, we are giving students and recent grads across Canada  a platform to share their stories about the school-to-work transition – the good, bad, and ugly.

The compilation will be shared with employers, government and other change-makers with the goal of giving students a voice in the school-to-work transition and ultimately making a difference in what is an increasingly stressful situation for Canadian youth.

Canada has the highest rate of youth under-employment among 17 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, and Student Voice offers an opportunity to make a positive difference.

Our mission

At TalentEgg, we’ve always believed that the conversation about campus recruitment and the school-to-work transition needed to be opened up to include feedback from all parties involved. Leveraging our unique position at the intersection of employers, students, career centres (and as a company full of Gen Y-ers ourselves), we are egg-cited to provide an open platform that will allow Generation Y to be heard.

We’re fighting Gen Y un- and under-employment by…

  • Creating a community of shared experiences to let students know they are not alone
  • Raising the profile of the issue of Gen Y under-employment in Canada
  • Giving students a voice and a platform on which to share their experiences and suggestions with employers, the government, career centres and other key stakeholders to help improve the entry level hiring experience

A side note on the importance of Student Voice

As we sprinted to put Student Voice together after a big, unexpected idea-storm on the morning of Thursday, March 3, 2011, we sent out an email to a small subsection of the registered users at With very little guidance, we asked them to submit their job search stories. The incentive? Help to change the way employers connect with you (students and recent grads), and raise the profile of Gen Y under-employment in Canada. No prizes, no gimmicks.

Within 2 hours, we had 10 thoughtful, passionate, and constructive submissions.

It turns out that – when it comes to campus recruitment – Gen Y is dying to be heard, and we’re very happy to provide the platform.
