Lately, similar to many others, I’ve been impacted by the brutal turn of the economy. I’ve been told several times by employers that they could not hire me, not because I am not qualified or they wouldn’t want me to work for them, but because their companies are cutting back as a result of the recession.
The interview can be a terrifying experience, but if you follow a few simple strategies you can achieve a professional and memorable interview that get you the job you want: be prepared and ask questions, know the company, dress to impress, brag a little and expect the unexpected.
Is it possible to act too professional? What happens when your personality disappears altogether because you’ve become so concerned with behaving the right way and saying the right things? Laughing, joking and telling personal stories is OK — just be yourself!
Is college really worth the extra year of tuition, essays, expensive books and cramming for exams? Although the decision to return to school is not for everyone, for certain types of careers it’s beneficial to gain that extra education and experience – especially in tough economic times.
