New Grad and Early Career Fair: May 2nd, 2019 – Event Recap

While networking can sometimes feel a little scary or you might be unsure where to start, Career Fairs can be a great way to practice and hone your skills. On May 2, Career Connections hosted a career fair which introduced students and new grads to 17 top employers in the insurance industry. TalentEgg was there to follow the action and get the inside scoop from insurance employers. Here’s the event recap.

Who Was There and What We Heard

This event was packed with meaningful, career-oriented conversations where students and new grads were able to showcase their skills and knowledge to potential employers. HR and talent professionals were able to highlight what roles were available in their organizations, showcase programs targeted to students and new grads, and identify talent that might meet their immediate needs for open positions and others down the line.

We asked employers to share a little bit about what they are looking for in a candidate.

“The thing that stood out most at this event is that the industry is looking for candidates from diverse backgrounds and experience – after all, the insurance industry touches virtually everything we do in life and in business!” Trevor went on to say.

“The initiatives we have at Zensurance are really focused on bringing in the talent that has little to no insurance experience. We have built a customizable onboarding plan for insurance professionals that really touches on areas where they require development.  We also partner with our insurance companies to guarantee that we are delivering effective and impactful training to our teams.”

And, while each employer offers their own culture, areas of specialization, and ways of doing things in their organization, there were definitely common themes in the messages they were bringing to the 150+ students in attendance. The industry is hiring, values a diverse range of skills (including STEM) and is at the forefront of game-changing issues in the world today – big data, climate change, cybersecurity, and autonomous vehicles just to name just a few!
