When it comes to retail, it’s easy to get lost in the noise on Twitter – there’s always a lot going on.
Here we’ve compiled a short list of retail-related Twitter accounts that will help you hatch your career – primarily campus recruiters, jobs-related accounts and trade publications and associations.
However, we also encourage you to follow the main Twitter accounts of your favourite retailers to stay up-to-date on their latest product offerings and company news. This information will help you gain invaluable knowledge about the retailer’s customer base, style, products and overall business.
Retail Week Twitter chat: Wednesday, March 20
Join the conversation about retail careers during our Retail Week Twitter chat this Wednesday, March 20 by following and tweeting with the hashtag #TEretail. Students, graduates and top retail employers from across Canada, including RBC, Starbucks, TJX Canada (Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls) and more, will be asking and answering questions all about careers in retail.
Just in case you don’t already know TJX Canada, here’s a hint: they’re the company behind Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls stores, and they’re very active on Twitter! You can follow the company’s main @LifeAtWinners careers account, @TJXCanadaJobs for just job listings, the individual @winners, @HomeSense and @marshalls accounts to get a better idea of what’s going on in-store, as well as a number of different talent acquisition professionals. Yes, banks are retailers too! They just have “branches” instead of “stores”, right? RBC has branched out to Twitter to search for top student and new grad talent for their egg-cellent career opportunities. Follow @RBC4Students as well as the full list of RBC campus recruiters and other RBC Twitter accounts to engage with the bank online. They’d love to hear from you!

If there is a single retail employer that’s making a huge splash on Twitter right now, it’s Target. Their Canadian stores are opening throughout 2013, but Target’s recruiters have been busy hiring now and it looks like a big part of their efforts involve Twitter – and they’re not just boring corporate accounts either. Follow anyone on our Target list for news about the company and its style, products and events in Canada. With over 135,000 full-time and part-time colleagues and more than 1,000 corporate and franchised stores from coast to coast, Loblaw Companies Limited is one of Canada’s largest private sector employers – and they have a lot of jobs. @loblawcareers tweets the company’s latest jobs from across the country.

Retail Council of Canada (RCC) is a not-for-profit, industry-funded association representing more than 43,000 store fronts of all retail formats across Canada, including department, specialty, discount, and independent stores, and online merchants. The association tweets industry news, gives props to innovators and even shares scholarship information. @RetailCouncil is a must-follow if you want to stay in the industry loop!
