There are more careers in the insurance industry than you probably think. Some are obvious – we’ve all heard of Brokers and Underwriters.
But did you know that there are also roles in Marketing, Risk Management, Customer Service, Actuarial Science, and more? Even if you did, how do you know which one is right for you?
There’s a brand new quiz you should take, but unlike most online quizzes, this one actually gives you real insight into something truly important: your career. So make sure you answer these questions honestly!
This new quiz is by Career Connections, a division of the Insurance Institute. Career Connections helps you learn about, explore and connect to careers in the property and casualty insurance industry.
Career Connections designed their aptitude quiz around you and your personal interests. Your place in life, likes and dislikes, and natural attributes are taken into account to let you know which insurance career will play to your strengths.
Finding your future insurance career
You start the quiz by choosing from High School Student, Post Secondary Student or Career Changer (you’re probably a Post Secondary Student, right?), and then you’re brought to a page with four different categories to choose from:
- Sales & Marketing
- Research & Analysis
- Investigations & Problem Solving
- Risk Management & Development Strategies
In case you’re not sure what something like “Risk Management & Development Strategies” entails, don’t worry: there’s an explanation for each category to give you the full scoop.
Digging deeper into which one is best for you
From there, you’ll answer multiple choice questions according to what appeals to you most. For instance, in the Sales & Marketing category, I was asked whether I was more interested in “helping customers choose products and services that are right for them” or “promoting products and services to a target audience.”
Each of the subsequent questions is tailored to your answers. Kind of like a “choose your own adventure” where you end up with an awesome insurance career path.
After a few more questions about whether I like working in groups or one-on-one, whether I’m more of a strategist or an entrepreneur, and whether I like working behind the scenes or directly with customers and clients, I landed on Marketing Representative as my ideal insurance career.
And, I learned that there’s a role in the insurance industry tailored to my skills and what I’m looking for in a job – something I definitely didn’t know before.
There’s an insurance career for everyone
As it turns out, there’s something for almost anybody. Those who are analytical and data-driven should look into becoming an Actuary. The “claims” sector of the industry is perfect for people who thrive on tackling complex problems and offers roles for grads from virtually any discipline. And for big thinkers who love to strategize, becoming a Risk Manager or Loss Control Specialist could be right for you.
So what are you waiting for? Take the Career Connections aptitude quiz for yourself to find your place in insurance.
