The Best Part Of A Career In Retail Is Helping Customers, Says Store Manager

by

Anthony Romeo is the hard working store manager of a Toronto Rona Home and Garden.

At the Ryerson University retail career fair in February 2010, he told Lauren that the best part about working in a career in retail at Rona is overcoming the daily challenge of helping customers accomplish their home improvement or renovation goals, and seeing those projects through from beginning to end.

To become a retail store manager, you need these attributes:

  • A good work ethic
  • Highly organized
  • The ability to go the extra mile to ensure the customers have a fabulous experience in the store
  • Leadership skills
  • The ability to learn quickly—most people don’t start at Rona knowing everything about home improvement and renovation, but they must be able to learn
  • The ability to adapt quickly—the landscape is always changing with new products and ways of doing things
  • Most important: be extremely hard working!
