Presentation Title: The Psychology of Negotiation

Negotiation is an activity that we all do frequently. When we attempt to reach agreements with others, resolve conflicts, or commit to future courses of action, we are negotiating. While it is true that strong analytical skills are needed to develop optimal solutions to problems, good negotiation skills are needed in order for these solutions to be accepted and implemented. This insight is one of the reasons why an ability to successfully negotiate is regarded as a core management competency. Fortunately, negotiation skills can be learned and mastered. The presentation will introduce several of the fundamental differences between expert and average negotiators, and describe ways these skills can be mastered.
