The E&S Service Line is a vibrant and growing team covering: Planning, Monitoring & Management (including marine, atmospherics, terrestrial, and aquatics); Society & Engagement; Regulatory, Permitting & Approvals. We have a challenging opportunity for a Full-Time experienced Junior or Intermediate level Wildlife Biologist to join our dynamic team. Our ideal candidate will have a technical background in wildlife biology and be experienced in wildlife field survey and reporting work. This position would be based in Alberta. Advisian offers the flexibility to work from your home region or the Calgary or Edmonton offices.

As our ideal candidate for this dynamic and challenging role, your responsibilities may consist of the following tasks:

• Apply knowledge and experience in wildlife ecology, wildlife habitat, and wildlife regulations on behalf of various clients in Alberta and Western Canada;
• Support or lead wildlife-related field work and standardized surveys, such as breeding bird, sharp-tailed grouse lek, prairie raptor, various amphibian and reptile inventories, and mammal surveys;
• Support or lead amphibian salvages or bird nest monitoring;
• Setting up and maintaining autonomous recording units and remote wildlife cameras;
• Author wildlife technical reports, workplans, proposals;
• Data entry and analysis, including software analysis for acoustic and ultrasonic sound files and running our internally-developed automated wildlife photo classifier;
• Client management, including communication through verbal and written correspondence;
• Responsible for personal safety and following safe working practices according to Worley occupational health and safety procedures;
• Work independently, or as part of multi-disciplinary teams;
• Assist, guide, or mentor less experienced team members to develop their technical and project skills;
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients; and
• Travel as required for various field work projects.

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications and experience:

• Bachelors or Master’s degree in ecology, biology, environmental resource management, or equivalent degree program, or an environmental technology/technical diploma, or equivalent diploma program;
• An active membership with professional organization or ability to obtain membership (e.g., ASPB, CAB, ASET);
• Approximately 2-6 years of experience working in wildlife ecology or related field;
• Experience in wildlife identification and ability to carry out fieldwork in remote and rugged locations, in various environmental conditions;
• Demonstrated understanding of provincial and federal wildlife guidelines, directives, and Acts
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills;
• Experience in industries such as pipelines, upstream/downstream oil and gas facilities, mining, infrastructure, or renewable energy projects would be an asset;
• Strong interpersonal skills;
• Strong technical writing skills;
• Self-starter and flexible team player;
• Reliable and motivated;
• Ability to work within a team environment;
• Excellent computer skills; and
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
