  • Assemble and integrate multi-disciplinary datasets (lab and field), including Geotechnical, Geological, Seismic, and Mine Plans/Schedules, to provide geotechnically sound mine designs.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining Vale’s Geotechnical/Geomechanical databases and identify gaps for additional data collection efforts to help provide geotechnically sound designs.

  • Complete geomechanics project work involving mining method selection/suitability, stope design, pillar stability, and mining sequencing for underground and/or surface open pits.

  • Work collaboratively with other Mines Technical Service Groups and mine operations to ensure that ground instability hazards, including seismic risk, are appropriately addressed with mitigation measures in the studies and mid to long-range mine plans.

  • Conduct Geomechanical risk assessment of LOM plans and annual mine execution plans to ensure that mining sequence and mine layouts are optimized to reduce the risk to safety and production.
