The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Business Excellence - Co-op Student (Part Time) to join our Business Excellence team in Sudbury.

This is a hybrid position. This is a 12-month month-fixed term co-op position starting in October 2024.

As a Co-op Student within our Business Excellence Team- interacting with cross functional teams across mining and processing plants and delivering on continuous improvement projects requiring you to take advantage of your creative and analytical thinking to support safe and reliable operations and improved business performance.

The Business Excellence is a North Atlantic function, within Vale Base Metals, supporting all operations in Ontario, Manitoba, Newfoundland and other international operations. You will be involved in the North Atlantic division strategy definition and monitoring its implementation via key performance metrics, continuous improvement projects and data analyses to provide insights and recommendations to the North Atlantic Operations.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • You will participate in projects that support delivering on the company’s strategy by driving increased efficiency and productivity, reduce costs and improve quality and safety. 
  • Support the implementation, tracking and improvement of performance and compliance metrics
  • Data Analytics - Assist in the development of tools for data tracking, data visualization dashboards, and execution of statistical analysis to support data-driven decision making.
  • Develop and manage reports linked to the area’s deliverables, working to improve quality and value add
  • Help to manage projects including timelines, action tracking and follow up.

About You

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor or Masters programs, preferably in a science-related discipline, engineering, business, economics or related areas.

Experience:

  • Interest and/or experience in the following:
    • Data analytics and data visualization
    • Continuous Improvement methods
    • Project Management

Skills:

  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Power BI and programming languages
  • Curiosity to learn
  • Hands-on approach to execution
  • Strong communication skills
