The Youth Job Connection program is designed to help young people between the ages of 15 and 29 who face multiple barriers to employment.  It provides access to employment skills development, along with education/training and work experience.  The YJC Facilitator/ Job Coach will support the Job Developer/Outreach Workers and will work closely with the Program Coordinator to ensure the program meets and exceeds all project goals and objectives.

Position Type: Full-time contract

Reporting to: Program Coordinator

Location: Etobicoke

Years of Experience: 2+

Contract dates: Immediately – March 31, 2019 (good possibility of renewal)

Responsibilities (main duties include but are not limited to):

Facilitation

  • Research create and design workshop material in line with funder requirements
  • Facilitate approved workshop material in a professional manner
  • Engage clients in workshops through interactive activities and discussions
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with participants when presenting workshops or meeting with them individually
  • Foster a positive learning environment for all participants
  • Ensure that each client understands the material presented and can apply it to their job search
  • Utilize resources to teach clients how to conduct an effective job search
  • Lead group work through activities in-class or on computers
  • Manage conflicts or disruptions during workshops in a proactive and professional manner
  • Ensure that all materials used while facilitating workshops are always organized  
  • Accept feedback on facilitation and continuously incorporate changes based on clients’ needs
  • Facilitate pre-employment workshops and program information sessions at community partner locations as needed

Client Assessment & Case Management

  • Conduct accurate assessment of candidates’ eligibility for the program
  • Present the program to participants in a clear manner ensuring they understand the objectives of the program and the time commitment involved
  • Assess client needs, identify barriers and develop service plans with appropriate interventions to help clients achieve employment goals
  • Provide case management support to clients including information & referral services
  • Document case notes, ensuring they capture the clients’ experience, challenges and growth because of the program
  • Document all relevant participant job search information in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain client case files in compliance with the Employment Ontario model requirements
  • Monitor clients’ progress with ongoing follow up calls and meetings to ensure all appropriate documentation in EOIS/CAMS, Internal databases and hard copy file

Job Coaching /Job Search Support

  • Direct participants to employers / job postings that would otherwise be missed without appropriate coaching
  • Provide individual job coaching to participants, encouraging them to apply skills learned through workshops
  • Conduct position-specific interview preparation with each client
  • Coach and motivate participants during their job search and placement
  • Provide one-to-one or group sessions on job maintenance to ensure clients can handle challenges on the job with professionalism and maturity
  • Contact past participants for continued job search support and/or motivation

Other Duties as Needed

  • Assist in the recruitment of potential participants when necessary (job fairs, visiting community centers, etc.)
  • Support with the development and supervision of mentorship opportunities for youth
  • Assist in the implementation of effective program marketing strategies in the community to recruit participants and ensure that required number of participants start services
  • Maintain flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Participate in The Career Foundation fundraising activities and events
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Coordinator

Qualifications/ Skills Required:

  • Must possess a university Degree in Social Sciences or related field
  • Formally trained with at least one (1) year of experience in supporting youth who face multiple barriers to employment
  • Experience in assessment, case management, pre-employment skill development techniques, group facilitation, and life skills coaching
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and supports available for youth and job seekers
  • High level of computer literacy utilizing all Microsoft Office Applications
  • Broad knowledge of occupations and current labour market conditions affecting youth
  • Demonstrated willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the organization’s success
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills for giving and receiving instructions, participating in meetings and writing
  • A professional yet personal approach, with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served and an ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Customer service oriented with ability to uphold the organization’s service standards and policies
  • Strong organizational skills, able to take initiative and multi-task
