Crisis Counsellors (Part Time )
St. Leonard’s Community Services provides programs and services in Addictions and Mental Health, Housing, Justice and Employment that enable community members to overcome challenges through choices that result in positive change.
Our accredited centre of excellence for children, youth, adults, and families is currently seeking an enthusiastic and responsible individual for the following position:
PART TIME CRISIS COUNSELLORS
The Integrated Mental Health Crisis Service provides immediate crisis support and/or counselling for individuals experiencing a mental health or situational crisis. Working in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Brant, the Brant Community Healthcare System, and Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services our services include:
- Immediate Telephone Crisis Counselling (24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year)
- Mental Health Walk-in Clinic: No Appointment Necessary (9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday - Friday)
- Connection to Addiction Services Available
- Psychogeriatric Crisis Services available through Behavioural Supports Ontario – Community Outreach Team
- Linkages to On-going Service as Required
- Naloxone Kits and Exchange Supplies
DUTIES: Provide immediate crisis support and/or counselling for individuals of all ages who are experiencing a mental health and/or situational crisis. Responsibilities will include assessing the situation and formulating an appropriate plan of action. This may include various interventions such as telephone crisis support and face-to-face crisis intervention, calling in other emergency services, consultation with other clinicians (psychiatrists/psychologists), interaction with other professionals and community agency staff, referral to other agencies and providing follow up and support where required to facilitate a safe discharge plan.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a college diploma in Social Sciences with a University degree in Social Sciences preferred. A minimum 2 years’ combined education/experience in substance use and/or mental health clinical or group setting is also required. Must have effective communication and report-writing skills. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and working with databases. Must have reliable transportation as some travel may be required.
HOURS OF WORK: Primarily weekends, with shifts ranging from 8 am to midnight, although schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the program.
START DATE: A.S.A.P.
HOURLY WAGE: Band 4 - $18.30 plus shift premiums
