The Rail and Transit Engineering Guideway Design and Integration Student/Intern position is ideal for an individual looking for an introduction to rail and transit engineering. We are looking for an eager student with drive and ambition who can learn on the job and potentially grow with the team and develop into a full-time position. Our growing team is always in need of talented individuals wishing to be part of the rail and transit engineering world.

Start: May 2022 – August 2022 (Summer term)

Location: Toronto / Quebec

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Design and coordination of various right-of-way components including but not limited to cable and cable routing systems, walkways, guideway lighting, vehicle clearances, sightlines, multi-disciplinary interfacing and space-proofing, at-grade and grade-separated crossings, operational signage, structural interfaces, signals and train control interfaces, trackside equipment, and other wayside components.
  • Use CAD/3D modelling software to design multiple engineering systems and visualize design solutions. Knowledge of Civil 3D, Revit, and MicroStation design programs is preferred. Implementation of macros and automated Dynamo workflows is an asset.
  • Use BIM federated models to coordinate design solutions and manage design conflicts.
  • Participate in the development of technical content for projects, including but not limited to design, coordination, preparation of reports, preparation of presentations and collaboration with other project disciplines, as delegated by each Manager.
  • Apply industry standard software and engineering principles to produce design outputs, or to complete studies to assess feasibility, performance, optimization, safety, or other factors of value to the design.
  • Collaborate with staff in other Regions to facilitate a cohesive work environment ensuring effective utilization of the company’s resources in this sector.
  • Support of construction and installation activities in the field confirming conformance to contract drawings.

What will you contribute?

  • 3rd or 4th year student currently enrolled in a university engineering program or similar.
  • Previous exposure to project documents and delivery methods (including calculations, drawings, technical specifications, procurement documents and design) CAD skills an asset. AutoCAD and MicroStation are two main design software utilized on various projects.
  • Previous experience on Infrastructure engineering projects and an understanding of project timelines and design development is preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.
