Status: Part-time, 12 month contract
Hours: 22.5 hours per week

Sherbourne provides innovative health care and social services to the diverse urban population of southeast Toronto. While our doors are open to everyone, we focus on people who are homeless or under-housed; LGBT2SQ, and newcomers to Canada. We are funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Toronto Central LHIN, Ministry of Child and Youth Services, City of Toronto and many generous companies, groups and individuals.

This position will be responsible for the development of SOY’s Youth Peer Leadership Project. This project’s mandate is to support the development of LGBT2SQ youth leadership and will participate in the planning and, as required, support weekly drop in groups, related to the SOY program.

Duties include: Recruitment, training of peers and the evaluation of this program. Participation and promotion in the greater community is required to ensure and maintain the profile of the program and continually build relationships within the community.


• Bachelor Degree in social work/social sciences or related field and three years experience developing volunteer and peer programs and facilitating community initiatives or an equivalent blend
• Post-graduate, Master’s level or equivalent formal training an asset

• Familiarity with Toronto’s diverse LGBT2SQ communities
• Knowledge of the community services, programs and resources available to LGBT2SQ youth in the Greater Toronto Area
• Demonstrated experience with group facilitation, negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to engage and collaborate with a variety of partners including volunteers, youth and adult community members and service providers
• Demonstrated ability to reach out to marginalized populations, create and develop effective partnerships
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and information management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to adapt communication style to audience
• Practices and works with an anti oppressive and cultural competent framework
• Demonstrated communication skills: presentations, reports, program plans, educational materials, brochures, etc.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent multi-project and time management skills

Conditions of Employment:
• Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Understand and maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Ontario Human Rights Code and other relevant legislation.
• Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with SHC related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices.

Working Conditions:
• Most work is complete Monday though Friday, 9am to 5pm but will include working evenings and weekends.
