Web Content Writer,

The CityNews & 680News digital team is looking for a part-time Web Content Writer to join their award winning newsroom. Reporting to the Manager, Digital News; this Web Content Writer wil be responsible for:

  • Report, write and publish breaking and enterprise news content
  • Generate, pitch and write news and feature stories
  • Create engaging interactive digital content using tools like timelines, maps, infographics
  • Generate, curate, monitor live storytelling pieces such as live blogs, Facebook Live videos, live streams, live Twitter stories
  • Ensure site contains and is updated with the very latest local, national and international news stories
  • Oversee and curate various site sections, focusing on local news
  • Distribute content via social media
  • Engage with viewers/readers via social media
  • Copy edit stories, when required
  • Resize and edit photos
  • Monitor news wires and publish relevant content
  • Process and publish digital video and audio from broadcasts
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and competitors
  • Other duties as assigned


  • At least three years of newsroom experience in a digital role
  • Journalism/broadcasting degree or diploma (or equivalent)
  • Extensive experience publishing on
  • Wordpress
  • Equal comfort writing original, enterprise journalism content as you are producing breaking news copy for publication online and for social media
  • DSLR Videography/photography experience an asset
  • Passion for the web and digital content creation
  • Knowledge of social media best practices
  • In-depth knowledge of CP Style
  • Excellent leadership, communication, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS a definite asset
  • Strong knowledge and interest in news, politics and current events, especially in Toronto
  • Strong production, editorial and storytelling skills
  • The ability to work independently and within a team in a fast paced environment under tight deadlines

Please note: This is a part-time job and requires the ability to work different shifts, including weekends, evenings and early mornings
