Manager, Business Development

The Business Development team partners with Executive Leaders in Rogers Media's business units and departments to address challenging strategic and operational questions.

Our team members support long term business decisions, generate insights into the performance of our business, and serve as a knowledge base of current and future industry dynamics. By joining our team, you will build your skills in data analysis, financial modeling, effective verbal and written communication, project management, and research. Moreover, work with the Business Development team will kick-start your career with various leadership paths available both within our team and across Rogers.

The successful candidate will work with the Business Development team and Media Business Leaders in the development and implementation of plans and priorities to help Rogers Media meet its long-term strategic objectives.

Key activities will include:

Problem Solving & Insight: Lead analysis and provide well-supported conclusions to help resolve business choices

  • Identify, frame and syndicate the specific challenges and opportunities facing Rogers Media
  • Shape the analysis and outline key steps required to resolve specific issues
  • Build accurate financial and analytical models and synthesize insight from this analysis
  • Develop actionable recommendations for key business decisions and/or transactions
  • Quality control the problem solving and conclusions of analysts and senior analysts

Communications & Presence: Communicate effectively with clients and teams in various mediums and situations

  • Credibly and effectively communicate findings, both orally and in writing
  • Add to debate and dialogue with facts and reason; challenge assumptions and inputs
  • Lead working sessions with extended team and senior business leaders
  • Remain calm and demonstrate confidence in tough interactions and stressful situations

Project Management: Lead large projects with cross-functional teams

  • Develop work-plans to coordinate cross-team activities; delegate to and manage extended teams accordingly
  • Produce personally and manage others to produce quality deliverables on time and as committed
  • Implement agreed upon solutions, managing stakeholders and project activities to completion
  • Multi-task effectively, juggling multiple projects and/or work-streams at one time

Client Interaction: Build strong relationships with business leads and project team members

  • Manage independently in a variety of circumstances e.g., one-on-one, small groups
  • Serve as strategic thought partner to the Business Development group's and Media Business' senior leadership

Contribution and Collaboration: Work collaboratively and effectively across the organization

  • Facilitate effective interaction across business units and functional lines of business
  • Act independently and take on challenges willingly

Talent Development: Help grow and shape a highly engaged business development team

  • Help recruit, mentor and coach junior members of the team
  • Serve as "direct manager" on a project-specific basis to analysts and senior analysts


  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Secondary degree/diploma/certification or a Master's degree an asset
  • 3 to 6+ years work experience in strategy, at a management consulting firm, investment bank, or similar Business Development roles
  • Experience within large complex organizations and/or the Media industry an asset
  • Proven analytical, financial modeling and problem solving skills
  • Ability to resolve complex challenges and deliver effective solutions
  • Experience managing project teams
  • Strong communications (written & oral) and interpersonal skills; strong sense of presence - confident and comfortable working with senior management / executives
  • Strong time management capabilities, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and objectives
  • Strong sense of initiative and a self-starter who can work equally well in groups or on their own
  • Results oriented, flexible and willing to work in a multi-task and dynamic work environment
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
