Energy Specialist

As an energy specialist, you will be responsible for the collection, research, and analysis of sustainable building performance metrics within the portfolio (such as energy and water use) to increase cost savings through efficiency practices at our properties.

  • Responsible for the implementation of sustainability initiatives that focus on Morguard’s Responsible Property Investment long-term objective and proactively engage with internal stakeholders to execute those initiatives
  • Coordinate various initiatives related to energy intensity and benchmarking, including but not limited to, the assessment of area/ space measurements, BOMA/LEED certifications, and the implementation of Energy Star ratings in office portfolios.
  • Review existing energy study reports and perform high-level assessments, which may include walk through audits to identify energy saving opportunities and to identify which systems will require more detailed evaluations.
  • Review and provide a description of the control systems, operating schedules and maintenance practices to identify operational savings.
  • Coordinate the implementation of energy-saving projects, including the planning, budgeting, and scheduling for the design, installation, commissioning, and verification of energy efficiency projects
  • Work to create and foster a sustainable energy management culture and provide an avenue for employees to recognize and report issues and ideas regarding energy conservation and efficiency.
  • Assist with the development of new building performance target setting process including (but not limited to) an Energy Management Plan
  • Complete quarterly reports and annual Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking for properties

  • Training or relevant experience in energy and environmental management in real estate
  • Diploma in a relevant field– Energy Management or Engineering
  • Analytical skills specifically related to energy management data, tools and technology
  • Experience developing and implementing Energy Management Plans and Programs
  • Working knowledge of current sustainability best practices
  • Strong understanding of building performance metrics and data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proactive focus on building relationships to help convince and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • CEM or equivalent certification preferred
  • Previous exposure to or experience with corporate sustainability initiatives and programs is a plus
