We are seeking a Senior Accountant for our growing Indirect Tax team. Providing the highest level of excellence, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our Tax team works with individuals and organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors providing comprehensive strategies that minimize risk, meet tax compliance and reporting requirements, drive efficiencies and maximize returns. Specifically, our Indirect Tax team develops tax-minimizing strategies that help businesses formulate, implement and manage indirect tax issues.

YOUR ROLE @ MNP

Performance Expectations

  • Participate in multiple client facing engagements regarding indirect tax matters
  • Research and prepare technical indirect tax positions; propose practical solutions
  • Assist in interpreting and demonstrating Indirect Tax legislation (GST/HST/QST and PST) on complex tax related issues
  • Responsible for quality deliverables such as client interactions, reports, technical work, and management presentations
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs
  • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlines
  • Think strategically about client needs by understanding their business and key risks
  • Identify ways to maximize the relationship with clients and deliver added value
  • Prepare and review indirect tax returns (client compliance) and review other work done from other team members for accuracy and completeness;
  • Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries and reports
  • Monitor project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary; advise clients of project status and seek clarification on discrepancies where applicable
  • Network and take a leadership role in the local professional, business, and community while raising awareness of MNP and looking for new business development opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
  • Study for CPA while working; effectively manage both work and studies
  • Manage multiple competing deadlines and properly document work as per guidelines
  • Communicate with Clients orally and in writing
  • Efficiently liaise with tax authorities to address client tax compliance issues and/or tax disputes

Credentials

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting and/or Finance major is preferred)
  • Completion of CPA designation or working towards a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation; completion of CFE examination and working towards relevant practical experience requirements will also be considered
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of relevant work experience in public accounting or tax
  • Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Profile, Quickbooks and Simply Accounting is an asset
  • Working knowledge of the Excise Tax Act and an Act respecting the Quebec Sales Tax
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and excellent Excel
  • Excellent attention to details and communication skills
  • Focus on Client Service and work ethics
  • Understands clients’ business and firm objectives and works towards those objectives
  • Strong team player, proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently  
  • Willingness to take on new challenges as team grows
  • Some travel may be required
  • Bilingual (French and English)
