Join the momentum. We are seeking an Accounting Technician for our growing U.S. Corporate Tax team. Providing the highest level of excellence, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our Tax team works with individuals and organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors providing comprehensive strategies that minimize risk, meet tax compliance and reporting requirements, drive efficiencies and maximize returns. Specifically, our U.S. Corporate Tax team assists businesses with cross-border issues to strategically plan and manage their tax liability.

Performance Expectations

  • Participate in U.S. corporate tax engagements involving advice on tax planning opportunities, tax minimization strategies and compliance issues
  • Work with team to deliver industry and technical expertise relating to complex tax and assurance issues through high quality deliverables such as: client interactions, reports, technical work, and management presentations
  • Prepare U.S. corporate tax returns
  • Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns ensuring compliance with government standards for various types of entities; profit, partnerships and trusts
  • Prepare journal entries and provide bookkeeping services as required by clients
  • Review legal documents such as articles of incorporation, purchase agreements and amalgamation agreements and advise clients and engagement managers/partners appropriately
  • Prepare domestic/international federal and multi-state corporate/partnership information returns
  • Correspond with team members and clients in response to specific corporate tax queries
  • Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries and reports
  • Research client issues that arise from compliance or planning work such as the effects of various tax treaty provisions on the taxpayer (capital gains, dividends, business profits, etc.)
  • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlines
  • Monitor project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary; advise clients of project status and seek clarification on discrepancies where applicable
  • Network in the local professional, business, and community while raising awareness of MNP and looking for new business development opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
  • Promote regular attendance, balanced lifestyle and high standard of team wellness
  • Attend internal MNP courses to further develop accounting and assurance knowledge

Credentials

  • Possess a post-secondary degree or certificate in accounting or another relevant field
  • Experience in an accounting, customer service and/or client service environment is preferred
  • Previous experience in financial statement analysis and preparation of tax returns is an asset
  • Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as CaseWare, GoSystem, ProSystem and Profile is preferred
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
