Regular hours may be afternoons Monday to Friday, e.g. 1–9 p.m. with possibility of weekend shifts.
Mainstay Housing works with people living with mental health and addiction issues. We are a charitable, private non-profit agency with 5 exciting opportunities for dynamic individuals to join our growing Homeless to Home program. Your part in our mission is to promote recovery, independence and quality of life as the agent of the landlord, community developer and site support to our tenants. This position reports to a Manager, Tenant & Member Services.
Assist tenants living with serious mental illness and/or addictions in their successful tenancy by:
- Assessing needs of tenants and working with them and their supports to develop and implement meaningful plans
- Supporting tenant involvement in decision-making processes
- Assisting tenants to achieve successful tenancy outcomes
- Providing emotional and practical support
- Creating, and supporting, community development initiatives with tenants
- Facilitating life-skills development
- Intervening in, and de-escalating, crises and conflicts
- Providing referral to, and collaborating with, appropriate health and community social services
- Participating in evaluation, planning, group meetings and supervision
- 2 to 3 years’ experience working with homeless people or people living with serious mental illness/substance use, as well as, people who have experienced violence and social isolation
- Undergraduate degree /College diploma in social services or a related field
- Understanding of homelessness/poverty and how these impact on people living with mental illness
- Knowledge of and proficiency in current approaches for adult mental health and addictions, anti-oppression, harm reduction and client centered principles
- Experience working with individuals with addictions issues, rent supplement subsidies, and private sector landlords.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and crisis prevention/intervention skills
- Ability to work positively within a multi-disciplinary team environment as well as independently as a self-starter
- Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills
- Computer Literacy
- Deep expertise in addictions
- Knowledge of working with aging populations
- Direct experience in supportive housing
- Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and the Mental Health Act
ON CALL & SOME EVENING & WEEKEND WORK REQUIRED.
The residential building/work environment does not have smoke-free units.
