Job Description

Overview

The Brewery Manager of Turning Point Brewery, for Stanley Park Brewing is accountable for the production, warehousing and distribution center activities, strategic direction, and overall performance of the total brewery operation, including Brewing and Blending, Quality Control, Production Planning, Packaging, Maintenance, Safety, Customer Service, Warehousing, Distribution and Sustainability.

The Brewery Manager will ensure the structure; people, processes and supporting tools are in place to effectively and efficiently manage the business within the Turning Point Brewery. In addition to setting strategic direction for the operation based on a strong partnership with the sales teams at Mike's Beverage Company and Stanley Park Brewing, this role will ensure that product supply is distributed to meet the needs of the commercial teams. The Brewery Manager will manage a team of leaders to ensure the strategic direction and objectives are realized through effective management of day to day activities in all departments. This includes bringing new brands to market, growing share of current brands, ensuring production targets are met, quality standards are achieved and standard operating procedures are followed at all times.

The Turning Point facility will serve as a role model for our third party manufacturing/innovation and warehouse facilities. This position is accountable for all functions related to the successful operation of the brewery, and distribution center in support of the associated business units. A major focuses are the development of a culture that thrives on continuous improvement, employee development, gold standard product quality, safety, customer service, and sustainability.

The Turning Point operation is a company owned facility that pilots and produces all innovation products (Beer and Ready-to Drink products) for all markets, and this role will continue to expand. The Brewery Manager is a key partner with the Corporate Liquid Development team and the Commercial Sales teams to bring innovation products to life and provide strategic direction on packaging options in preparation for scaling products for mass production.

The role requires a strong commitment to change, efficient management, and effective interpersonal relationships.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for planning and execution of production planning, brewing and blending, quality control, packaging activities (bottling, canning, kegging, bottle washing), warehouse operations, distribution, and facility maintenance performance and continuous improvement.
  • Create the capability for sustainable, cost effective manufacturing and distribution, by continuously optimizing costs, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining exceptional quality and safety standards.
  • Effectively manage inventory control of finished products and raw material components.
  • Preparation and control of packaging, maintenance, capital, warehouse operational budgets and projects.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, performance management, rewards and recognitions, career progression opportunities for department employees to enhance employee engagement and performance.
  • Establish and maintain property, equipment, and utilities in good condition to assure product quality, process efficiency, and economical operations.
  • Compliance with policy, regulations, health & safety targets and sanitation, hygiene, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) objectives.

People Leadership

Facility Operations Leadership:

  • Oversee the workflow and performance of employees in the Brewing, Quality, Packaging, Maintenance, and Warehouse departments.

  • Responsible for regular crew talks, safety crew talks and their appropriate documentation.
  • Responsible for the implantation and execution of an effective safety system.
  • Problem solve with non-traditional thinking, critical thinking, and efficient decision making to ensure that all measurable targets are met.
  • Innovation, Marketing, and Continuous Improvement:
  • Partnership with commercial sales teams and liquid innovation to pilot all innovation products.
  • Provide supply chain and packaging expertise on new products and packaging options.
  • Champion product cost reduction initiatives, identifying and executing against opportunities to reduce direct product costs while maintaining quality and brand integrity.
  • Ownership of functional budget, providing insight into variances where appropriate and driving corrective action as required for continuous improvement.
  • Build internal supply chain and operations expertise through the promotion of technical standardization and clear, consistent, documented processes across teams.
  • Drive energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements to optimize Turning Point's commitment as a sustainable brewery.

Job Qualifications

  • BSc in an Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience leading teams in packaging, warehouse, maintenance, manufacturing, and general plant operations.
  • Experience in beverage manufacturing including alcoholic beverages, carbonated and still soft drinks.
  • Experience with the manufacturing and bottling are required to support product innovation efforts.
  • Effective leadership and strategic influencing skills.
  • Proven experience leading/managing teams and developing people/organizations
  • Experience in small to medium size brewery operations is a must-have, including packaging and kegging lines.
  • Proven technical expertise in managing major capital projects in a facility, including project design and implementation.
  • Demonstrated packaging expertise and the ability to provide technical insight on package materials and design from a manufacturing perspective is required.
  • Proven experience leading and implementing 'green' or sustainable initiatives within an operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire talented professionals and build a team that embraces change and thrives on doing more with less.
  • Proven ability to successfully lead a diverse group of employees.
  • Proven experience in packaging innovation.
  • Experience in managing a network of co-packers to ensure supply demands are achieved in a cost effective and efficient manner.
