National Manager, Government Relations and Advocacy

We’re currently searching for a passionate National Manager, Government Relations and Advocacy. This position is responsible for the development and execution of JDRF’s provincial reimbursement strategy for diabetes drugs and devices. The goal of this program is to secure public and private coverage for beneficial medical technologies employed by Canadians with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to better manage their disease.


Key accountabilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Developing and executing a plan in support of the Government Relations strategy, with an expected focus on the organization’s provincial reimbursement strategy for diabetes drugs and devices
  • Responsible for budget management and reporting
  • Measuring, monitoring and reporting on the success of the program
  • Leading outreach to elected and non-elected officials and other stakeholders provincially
  • Working in partnership with the Marketing and Communications team to design communication tools, including advocacy emails, e-newsletters, social media and webpages
  • Designing and implementing Provincial/Territorial advocacy and awareness days
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all ethical and relevant standards and applicable laws
  • Acting as the staff resource of the Government Relations subcommittee of the Board working closely with high level volunteers

  • University degree combined with 5 years of progressive related experience in Government Relations or as a political staffer
  • Knowledge of government and its decision making processes, regulatory and legislative process and structure
  • Scientific or health background is an asset
  • Bilingual ability (English/French) is an asset
  • Experience working with volunteers and government relations agencies desired
  • Ability to work independently on many projects in a fast paced environment
  • Understanding of outreach methodologies and the ability to build relationships
  • Proven track record in government relations and stakeholder management
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of your time
