IBM Tech Re-Entry Program Details


This paid 12 week Apprenticeship enables participants to work on projects that match their expertise, interests and abilities and could lead to full-time employment. In the same way an internship offers a guided period of exploration, the IBM Tech Re-entry Apprenticeship program provides participants with an opportunity to update their skills in a work environment that may have significantly changed since their last experience. Apprentices will have access to the latest tools and technologies available and work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers and business professionals to hone their expertise and focus on the next generation of processes and software. The program will also provide the opportunity to experience the breadth of IBM resources while developing new relationships. Apprenticeship positions are currently available for IBM Software Developer/Tester Apprentices in the IBM Security business unit. These positions are available in Fredericton, NB.

IBM Security is a global provider of high-value, cost-effective, security information and event management (SIEM) products.

The flagship offering, QRadar, integrates previously disparate functions – including log management, network behavior analytics, and security event management – into a total security intelligence solution. QRadar provides users with crucial visibility into what is occurring with their networks, data centers, and applications to better protect IT assets and meet regulatory requirements.

What will you do as an IBM Software Developer/Tester Apprentice?

Top Responsibilities:

Creation and execution of comprehensive product test plans, test cases and scripts
Test automation/ unit test development
Interfacing with QA/development teams to understand/resolve potential defects in the product
Collaboration with Customer Support team to understand/reproduce field issues
Configuring/installing Linux servers and other security devices
Assist in accurately estimating the effort for various phases of software development cycle
Development of features for Security products

What do we look for in a successful IBM Software Developer/Tester Apprentice?

Strong problem solving/troubleshooting abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Ability to manage time and handle multiple priorities

This role will involve working with technology that is covered by embargo Export Regulations. If you are a Foreign National from any of the following embargoed countries (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria) on a work permit, you are not eligible for employment in this position.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • In order to qualify for this apprenticeship, applicant must have been out of the work force for a minimum of 2 years
  • English Fluent (verbal and written)
  • Min 2- 3 years of Software Quality Assurance/Development experience or experience in a related field
  • Experience with Linux, Java script, html, xml and regular expressions
  • Expertise in two or more of the following: C++, Perl, Java/Java script, Visual Basic, SQL, XML, HTML

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Experience with Test Automation/Scripting, knowledge of IBM’s Selenium/Groovy is an asset
  • Networking/Security experience
