IBM's Tech Re-Entry Apprenticeship program develops talented technical professionals who are looking to relaunch their careers after time away from the workforce of two years or more. This paid 12-week Apprenticeship enables participants to work on projects that match their expertise, interests and abilities and could lead to full-time employment. In the same way an internship offers a guided period of exploration, the IBM Tech Re-Entry Apprenticeship program provides participants with an opportunity to update their skills in a work environment that may have significantly changed since their last experience. Apprentices will have access to the latest tools and technologies available and work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers and business professionals to hone their expertise and focus on the next generation of processes and software. The program will also provide the opportunity to experience the breadth of IBM resources while developing new relationships. Apprenticeship positions are currently available at the IBM Client Innovation Centre (CIC) NS within the Development practice.

IBM's state-of-the-art Client Innovation Centre (CIC) opened in Nova Scotia in March 2013 and is the first of its kind in Canada. The Centre weaves together IBM's business insights and industry-leading software portfolio and is ideally suited for any client that needs flexible access to emerging or niche skills that may not be cost effective to grow internally. What will you do as an IBM Software Developer Apprentice?

Collaborate with a team of Software Developers to develop innovative solutions to technical problems. You will be writing code to develop new applications and improve on existing applications. In addition, you will be learning new technologies and methodologies for problem solving and application development.

What do we look for in a successful IBM Software Developer Apprentice?

  • Strong problem solving/ troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Aptitude for learning new skills
  • Ability to manage time and handle multiple priorities

Required Skills:

  • To qualify for this apprenticeship, applicants must have been out of the technical workforce for a minimum of 2 years
  • Experience in a technical role
  • Development experience in one or more of the following areas: Web Programming (HTML5, Javascript, CSS), Mobile Development (iOS/Android), Java, C++, C#, Node JS and/ or Business Intelligence/ Analytics Software

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:

  • To qualify for this apprenticeship, applicants must have been out of the technical workforce for a minimum of 2 years
  • Experience in a technical role
  • Development experience in one or more of the following areas: Web Programming (HTML5, Javascript, CSS), Mobile Development (iOS/Android), Java, C++, C#, Node js and/ or Business Intelligence/ Analytics Software.
