External Relations Professional
Do you love to find and tell cool stories about AI and cloud? If so, The IBM Canada Brand & Communications team has just the role for you. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years professional background in media or influencer relations, strong written and oral communications skills, extensive understanding of social media and the ability to manage multiple projects to deadline. Bilingualism is an asset.
As an external relations team member, you will be leveraging, developing and managing relationships and networks of media and influencer representatives in order to protect and enhance IBM's brand, image and reputation and influence decision makers leading to positive media coverage. You will be expected to protect and enhance the IBM brand by proactively creating communications plans and strategies, compelling messaging, differentiated positioning and influencing media and other industry influencers to drive a positive impact and portray IBM effectively with clients, business partners, industry bodies, governments, influencers and alumni. You will collaborate with members of the global external relations team, the Canadian marketing team and external agencies to articulate and effectively communicate IBM’s value proposition and help arm the sales organization with messages and media coverage that promote IBM’s leadership.
Specific areas of focus will include cloud computing and the financial services industry, although the role will not be limited to these areas.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications or related discipline
At least 3 years experience in media or influencer relations.
At least 1-2 years experience in digital storytelling
Basic knowledge in research data, facts, trends, examples, stories, and the ability to write for diverse audiences with sensitivity to cultural norms
At least 2 years experience in social media and digital trends
Readiness to travel 10% travel annually
French: An asset
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
At least 5 years experience in experience in media or public relations
At least 5 years experience in research data, facts, trends, examples, stories, and the ability to write for diverse audiences with sensitivity to cultural norms
At least 3 years experience in digital storytelling
