Back End Developer - Internship (Markham, ON)

Your Role and Responsibilities
This position resides in Markham, Ontario and is a 16 (internship) month work term commencing May 2020. It is mandatory that all applicants are enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term.
The candidate will work within a strong group of developers coding in Java or C++ depending on the aspect of the product to be enhanced, in an Agile setting towards quarterly deliveries. The team is mandated with the mission of providing views and queries into a heterogenous data lake from numerous client sources as part of IBM's Cloud Pack for Data offering.
This functionality is of vital importance to the industry and the market as data only grows, along with its sources - while the demands to attain complete and representative, insightful views into the data with best of breed performance expectations grows lockstep. There are further expectations to enhance the product with ML capabilities. A very exciting area!
You will work in an area where your peers are passionate about their product and its value to the industry and market, for clients many of whom are top Fortune 500 and understandably demanding, where teamwork is expected towards ongoing learning and everyone's success.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Proficiency in Java or C++.
- Track record focus on code correctness, and performance implications of your work.
- Quick learner - it's a fast paced environment.
- Team player and good communicator - you are comfortable asking for help, digging for answers, and staying clear of surprising people if it can be avoided.
- Knowledge of databases or SQL.
- Co-op or internship program enrollment is mandatory
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Ideally proficiency in Java and C++.
- Experience in QA, automation, agile.
- Worked on complex projects, demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
