Credit Services Specialist

In contributing to the effective delivery of commercial credit services to customers, this role will complete a broad range of tasks with some complexity and/or some specialization. Credit Services are the commercial lending products related activities and enquiries from customers and RMs pre and post fulfillment, related to maintenance, changes and may include documentation and collateral matters

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas

Impact on the Business

  • Complete tasks with some complexity and/or some specialization which may include customer/RM credit service requests which may include collateral controls/custody, quality checking, investigations, content for procedures, activity records-workflow MI production,
  • Highly Service oriented - acts proactively and independently using knowledge based judgment within assigned authority
  • Promote commercial credit services and product knowledge awareness through ongoing training and effective communication with fellow team staff
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Cultivate a positive rapport with commercial teams or SD teams for the best possible client service
  • Ensure internal and external customer feedback is logged and addressed
  • Ensure service standards and timely completion of requests is met
  • Resolves unusual issues, investigating their source to minimize or eliminate further occurrences; identify/seek or escalate to ensure legal, compliance and or risk management input or other service delivery/department assistance.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Ensure all credit fulfillment is directed to Service Delivery as required, be able to assist other cmb credit services team members as required.
  • Promote commercial credit services and product knowledge awareness through ongoing training and effective communication with fellow team staff
  • Complete research and compile material for management to render recommendations.
  • Provides support to correct identified problems.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Maintains/monitors service activity performed against standards
  • Complete activities within assigned authority, within current policies including but not limited to Credit Services User Guides, CARM, Commercial Lending Manual policy, etc
  • Ensure controls and internal/external standards are complied with; ensure legal/risk/finance/audit, etc. guidance is adhered to as applicable
  • Ensure operational issues, near misses, losses, etc are appropriately escalated to senior management for appropriate logging with Business Risk Control Management and actioning.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and reputational risks.
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned. responsibilities, as assigned.

Major Challenges

  • Multiple tasks/requests with often conflicting priorities need to be managed

Role Context

  • The position makes decisions within assigned authority - Decisions beyond assigned authority are referred to higher management for approval.

Management of Risk

  • Ensure compliance of both general and anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing (AML/ATF) compliance controls as well as operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.

Observation of Internal Controls

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.


  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years banking experience preferably with commercial credit services, knowledge of Canadian Banking practices
  • Preferred post-secondary education: University/Business School degree or through ICB accreditation
  • Well-developed communications skills (oral, written, listening)
  • Sound knowledge of the HSBC policy and procedures applicable to commercial credit – loan/collateral and related activities. Familiar with the Bank's complete range of commercial credit products and services
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong team player and highly service oriented
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills to effectively schedule and prioritize activities and requests and ensure service deadlines are met
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and HBCA internal systems.
