The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) – Audit & Compliance position will independently lead the Audit & Compliance unit, reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Administration. With over 300 active projects, the SFA will coordinate and supervise innovators’ spot-check audits activities and apply a systematic approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of GCC’s financial processes. The SFA will also assist management in drawing conclusion on the adequacy of the organizations due diligence processes and funder compliances. As the SFA, you are an adaptable, proactive individual with a strong willingness to learn and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the Audit & Compliance team in conducting spot-check audits on GCC funded projects
• Develop audit objectives, scopes, audit programs, and audit tests in collaboration with the other Finance and Programs Team
• Write formal findings letters based on evaluating, analyzing, and documenting the strengths, weaknesses, and controls of the reporting entities/projects
• Prepare and review audit reports and presentations to ensure they are clear, concise and well organized
• Prepare Audit & Finance Committee memos
• Ensure proper execution of audits procedures and adequate documentation for findings
• Provide guidance and interpretation of GCC’s funding policies and procedures internally and externally
• Supervise, support and mentoring of junior staff
• Some travel, domestically and internationally, may be required
• Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
• Completion of a Canadian recognized accounting designation (CPA via CA, CMA or CGA stream).
• Minimum of 3 years of audit experience required, experience in not-for-profit preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels within GCC
• Supervisory experience, the ability to mentor junior staff, an asset
• Must be self-motivated, proactive, and have demonstrated excellence in organizing and prioritizing workflow in a fast paced and high volume environment
• Ability to execute projects with minimum supervision and to complete work within required deadlines
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Highly computer literate with advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office Suite.
• Strong analytical skills, knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification and resolution of audit issues
• Knowledge of Canadian GAAP, accounting, bookkeeping, laws, regulations, agency policies and guidelines, other requirements that affect grant program administrators
• Ability to design, analyze, and prepare audit procedures
• Ability to monitor audits and maintain data
