Regina’s Place, Supportive Housing for Young Parents is a program within Good Shepherd Youth Services. Regina’s Place provides transitional housing and support services to young mothers with a focus on positive parenting and life skills development. A full time opportunity currently exists in the role of:
Youth Support Worker – Full Time
In this role, you will work to make a difference in the lives of adolescent mothers and their children living at Regina’s Place - Youth Services. Services to clients include assessment, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counseling, education, advocacy, social/recreational programming, life skills teaching i.e. cooking and linkages with other community services as well as InterRai assessments and supporting the overall health and wellbeing of Young Moms and their children.
SSW or CYW
Preferred candidates for the above position will be knowledgeable of and have experience working with a range of issues impacting single parent families including homelessness, violence against women and children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance use; and will have an understanding of and be comfortable working from a client-centred approach. Experience working in a transitional housing/residential setting is preferred. Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. In this role you will rotate days and afternoons. During shift, some cleaning may be required including unit turnovers (as needed), cleaning of program spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, staff office, cleaning of hallways/windows etc. The ability to complete housekeeping/cleaning duties setting is required. Certification in CPR or a willingness to be certified is also required. A valid driver’s license is also required.
The successful candidate must be available to work a schedule that includes two rotating shifts (days and afternoons), potentially including 1 weekend per month.
