A Part-time position at Community Support Services for Women and Children, 30 Pearl Street North, currently exists in the role of:
Violence Against Women Community Counselling
Hours of work: 40 hours every 2 weeks, days, evenings and weekends.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing respectful, appropriate services including therapeutic counselling and group facilitation related to woman abuse and gender-based violence. This position will focus on providing counselling services and therapeutic groups to women who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing violence. The VAW facilitator will work within an integrated team to provide services to both residential and community from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The successful candidate will be required to assume a regular caseload, develop and deliver group programming, and provide back-up support to colleagues as needed.
Applicants will have a demonstrated knowledge of issues related to woman abuse, including intimate-partner violence and sexual assault. She will have experience developing safety plans with women and children who are at risk of abuse. She will clearly articulate how to apply a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive framework to VAW counselling. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in providing therapeutic counselling. A minimum 2 years’ experience in group facilitation. Applicants must possess a related post-secondary education; MSW is an asset. Valid C.P.R. certification and a demonstrated commitment to the mission values. Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license is an asset. The successful candidate will have a flexible schedule.
