Youth Education Program

Through our Community Investment - Youth Education Program, EDC helps build the capacity of the next generation of business leaders by awarding scholarships to Canadian students with a demonstrated interest in international business.

International Business Scholarships

EDC created the International Business Scholarships because international trade is critical to Canada’s economic prosperity and we’re dedicated to helping students like YOU – the next generation of business leaders – to succeed.

We award up to 30 scholarships annually, 25 of which go to undergraduate university or college students interested in pursuing a career or furthering their studies in international business, with up to 5 additional scholarships for students in programs which combine business with environmental or sustainability studies.

An EDC scholarship is worth a $4,000 cash award. Scholarships are awarded in spring, and issued in autumn at the start of each academic year.

Hear from a couple of our past scholarship winners:

Rohith Manhas, 2014
Bachelor of Business Administration, Simon Fraser University

Rohith was the Vice President of the University’s International Business Association and completed an internship with the Canada-India Business Counsel in Mumbai. He has been member of the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Regional Transportation and Logistics Committee and received the 2013 Surrey Board of Trade top 25 under 25 Award.

“Receiving this scholarship will allow me to best fulfill my role as Commissioner for the District of Maple Ridge while in Europe. This scholarship will also allow me to further explore my international business career ambitions by supporting my experiential learning while abroad.”

Deanna Mirlycourtois, 2014
Bachelor of Commerce in International Business and Human Resource Management, University of Manitoba

Deanna has participated in sustainable economic development projects in El Salvador, Ecuador and Brazil. In Brazil, she made recommendations on sustainable small business practices in indigenous communities. Her aspiration is to promote sustainable economic development and capacity building.

“It is an immense honour to be recognized as an EDC scholarship recipient! The award helped me finance an exchange in Spain where I improved my fluency in Spanish. It also served as personal motivation to pursue further education in the field of international business and economic development. The emphasis the award places on the value of international experience, and the role business can play in bridging cultures and developing societies has helped reaffirm my desired career path.”

Case studies

We also collaborate with Canadian universities to develop international business case studies that focus on Canadian exporters. These cases may be used for material for teaching in business faculties, to build recognition for university program specializations, or for entry into business-case competitions.
