THE TEAM: Community Practice Quality & Integration, Community Partnership & Integration
The Community Partnership and Integration department at Doctors of BC works to support the mandate of GPSC by strengthening physician leadership and engagement to advance an integrated system of care in B.C., as well as supporting the capacity of Divisions of Family Practice to achieve impact through local, regional, and provincial partnerships and engagement.
Local Divisions of Family Practice support family physicians to work together to provide the best possible patient care for the citizens of their community, and to maximize professional satisfaction. The Community Partnership and Integration Office (formally known as the Provincial Division Office) support the work of local Divisions at a local, regional and provincial level to enable alignment with provincial strategic directions, resources and supports.
THE JOB: GPSC Community Liaison, Vancouver Coastal
Reporting to the Manager, GPSC Liaisons, the GPSC Community Liaison is responsible for supporting the Divisions of Family Practice in all aspects of organizational functioning and development, with particular attention to supporting the capacity of Executive Directors and Physician Leads to manage and govern their organizations and engage their membership.
The GPSC Community Liaison also acts as a facilitator of collaborations and a conduit of information between Divisions, Health Authorities, the GPSC, and other community groups. The position is an information link between divisions, raising awareness of promising approaches across communities, and investigating on behalf of divisions any GPSC and/or provincial processes that impact their work. The GPSC Community Liaison is also responsible for co- developing evaluation strategies to measure the impact of the Divisions of Family Practice, and support community, regional and provincial planning by creating partnerships internally and externally, aligning strategies, developing relationships, building capacity with physician leaders, and providing advice around approaches.
This position will be home-based with extensive travel throughout the Vancouver Coastal region required.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Builds relationships with and coaches division leaders, including Physician Leads and Executive Directors, to develop their capacity to lead and manage their organizations.
- Acts as a trusted advisor and provides coaching on the development of partnerships through fostering effective relationships with physicians, health authorities, the GPSC, the MOH, Doctors of BC, and other partnerships.
- Participates in Collaborative Services Committee meetings, while remaining sensitive to the political and relationship dynamics in the room and provides constructive feedback to the development of local plans.
- Acts as an information link between divisions by raising awareness of promising approaches across communities.
- On behalf of divisions, investigates, problem solves and connects divisions with other departments within Doctors of BC and with other team members within CPQI.
- Attends CSCs/JLCs and occasionally attends Division Board meeting and shares appropriate information at these tables from the GPSC.
- Supports division organizational development, including board development, governance, member engagement and human resources, through advice, links to support, coaching and problem solving.
- Develops partnerships and relationships around evaluation and planning with Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health and Physician Leaders and providing expertise around evaluation internally.
- Facilitates meetings, education sessions, input gathering, and mediation (as required) between stakeholders both locally, regionally, and provincially.
- Works in collaboration with GPSC regional liaisons in building local and regional capacity and with the provincial GPSC liaisons team to implement the Community Partnership and Integration office’s strategic directions.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to health or community development and at least 3-5 years’ experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Knowledge of the BC health care system including a good understanding of health regions, and Ministry of health’s policy directions.
- Experience in coaching, facilitation, negotiation, mediation, advocacy, strategic thinking and alliance building.
- Experience working closely with physicians, health authorities, and other stakeholders along with demonstrated leadership and change management experience and a solid track record in multiple stakeholder engagement and partnership development.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work in a complex environment with multiple stakeholder groups.
- Strong and communication skills (listening, verbal, written) including presentation skills, and experience in creating and delivering learning content.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively within BC required.
