Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services (DHNS) Seniors Services is currently welcoming applications from qualified applicants for the position of Weekend Meals on Wheels Coordinator.  We are looking for caring and enthusiastic individuals to join our team and become part of a progressive non-profit organization.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Meals on Wheels, the Weekend Meals on Wheels (MOW) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the weekend MOW program including but not limited to:  providing volunteers with instructions, materials, and support; working with drivers to ensure meals have been obtained from sources where it is prepared; following up with client problems, emergencies, complaints, and communications; managing the kitchen from where the program is centrally operated; and foster positive relationships with clients, volunteers, and staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide volunteers with the appropriate instructions, materials, and support needed to successfully participate in the MOW Program.
  2. Train, supervise, support, and monitor weekend MOW Volunteers
  3. Worked with staff drivers to ensure that meals are picked up from food preparation sources.
  4. Communicate client updates to the MOW Supervisor.
  5. Reports any volunteer issues or concerns to the Volunteer Manager and Meals on Wheels Supervisor.
  6. Follow up on any client problems or emergencies, inquiries and/or complaints and communicate critical information to the Meals on Wheels Supervisor.
  7. Drive a vehicle and deliver meals when necessary.
  8. Ensure that the kitchen is restored to order at the end of each shift.
  9. Foster positive relationships with clients, volunteers, and staff.
  10. Meet regularly with Supervisor to discuss individual, team, and program effectiveness.
  11. Work collaboratively with the department manager, other team members of the department and other Dixon Hall staff and volunteers.
  12. Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events.
  13. Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision, and Values of Dixon Hall.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in non-profit community services and/or working with seniors and disabled adults.
  2. Relevant University Degree or College Diploma an asset.
  3. Must be available to work alternating weekends and, as required, to cover other weekends and statutory holidays that have not been assigned.
  4. Either of the following combinations:
    1. a valid Ontario driver’s license, personal auto insurance, consent to a Ministry of Transportation Driver’s Abstract, and your own vehicle, OR
    2. a valid Ontario driver’s license, personal auto insurance, consent to a Ministry of Transportation Driver’s abstract, and 25 years of age or older.
  5. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  6. Strong written and verbal English language skills that include a strong ability to exchange information and knowledge; fluency in a second language will be considered an asset.
  7. Flexibility and problem solving skills.
  8. Able to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  9. Experience supervising or managing volunteers.
  10. Self-directed and independent, as well as proven experience in working effectively as an inter-disciplinary team member and in collaboration with other community professionals.
  11. Superior organizational, analytical, problem solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, prioritize, take initiative.
  12. Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check.
