Float (relief) Child and Youth Worker

Craigwood Children, Youth & Family Services is a fully accredited not-for-profit children’s mental health centre providing a variety of innovative youth serving programs with locations in London and Ailsa Craig. London is a designated area in Ontario under the French Language Services Act; bilingual candidates are encouraged to consider this opportunity.

Float (relief) Child and Youth Worker

We are seeking qualified Float (relief) Child and Youth Workers to work at our residential facilities in London and Ailsa Craig.  Float positions are relief employees who provide full time hours averaged over the schedule and are the first source for filling vacant shifts.

You will be responsible for the support, safety and security of the youth in our care. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will possess the ability to facilitate and motivate youth to work cooperatively, individually or in a group setting.

 

The following are essential qualifications from the successful candidate:

  • Demonstrated commitment and adherence to the core values of the organization.
  • An appropriate combination of education and experience that would satisfy the demands of the position. Child & Youth Work diploma or equivalent degree/diploma preferred.
  • Experience in programming utilizing cognitive behavioural approaches.
  • Specialized training/experience in group work, therapeutic recreation, substance abuse treatment, child abuse interventions or other clinical modality (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with challenging adolescents and families to develop a therapeutic relationship.
  • Ability to facilitate and motivate youth to work co-operatively, individually or in a group setting.
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation (CFSA, YCJA, OH&SA).
  • Knowledge of safety and security procedures for difficult-to-serve youth
  • Capacity to function effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated competence in report writing and proficient computer skills.

 

If successful, you must provide:

  • A valid full ‘G’ class Ontario driver’s license and have your own reliable transportation (the majority of shifts are at our Ailsa Craig location).
  • Current Police Records Check & Vulnerable Position Screening.
  • Health Assessment.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate (must obtain within 60 days from your date of hire).
  • Be available to complete five (5) days of mandatory agency orientation training.
