Our Programs team provides a holistic model of care for Indigenous youth and seeks a positive and experienced lead to support day to day guidance for front-line youth workers in coordinating culture, case management and health promotion activities for Indigenous youth.

The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is an award-winning Health Access Centre that provides holistic health services to First Nation, Inuit and Métis people living in Ottawa - one of the fastest growing and diverse urban Indigenous communities in Canada. Purpose of Position:

The Youth Team Lead will guide the youth team in their roles of culture, case management and health promotion and be responsible for program targets and deadlines while also assuming a hands-on role in supporting youth 7-18 in various health promotion activities.

Some of the responsibilities of this position are:

  • Work with and for our community Indigenous Youth to provide a bright future;
  • Lead and support team members through completing team and individual work plans, meeting goals, reporting and problem solving;
  • Source consultants (ex. Elders, traditional educators, facilitators), manage contracting of consultants for youth events planning and program delivery;
  • Provide orientation for staff and consultants;
  • Support team to provide case management and systems navigation to eligible youth and manage referrals from Indigenous and mainstream organizations;
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners;
  • Coordinate and facilitate Indigenous youth programs and workshops as required;
  • Conduct program evaluation and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree or College Diploma in Social Services, Child and Youth Care, or relevant field;
  • Experience with youth programming, effective communication with Indigenous youth;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous peoples’ history and challenges Indigenous youth face in contemporary society;
  • Demonstrated superior problem solving ability with sound judgment, strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated experience working with high risk youth and managing crisis situations;
  • Knowledge of available resources in Ottawa and ability to research the resources available in remote communities outside of Ottawa;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy;
  • Ability to work a flexible work week that may include non-traditional hours, evenings and weekend;
