Youth Peer Mentor Opportunity - Malvern Family Resource Centre

Malvern Family Resource Centre is currently looking for volunteer Peer Youth Mentors for the Stronger Together project. The Stronger Together project utilizes a harm reduction framework to provide at-risk and newcomer youths, with the tools and means to build resiliency, increase access, awareness and education around addictions and substance use within Malvern.


Job Description

  • Work collaboratively with the Youth Health Project Coordinator to develop an 8 week curriculum 

  • Advocate and support youth in a diverse community through partnerships 

  • Attend trainings & professional development opportunities 

  • Deliver and facilitate Stronger Together curriculum to youth aged 12-17 from September 2020 - December 2020 in local schools and community sites

  • Develop and distribute outreach materials

  • Help empower and inspire at-risk/ vulnerable youth to enhance their skills and hobbies to help them develop their overall confidence and resiliency when it comes to practising substance refusal skills. 

  • Receive training about substance use & addictions in youth; resilience building; group facilitation skills & culturally responsive programming/ development.

  • Deepen your understanding of addiction/ substance use issues within Scarborough youth population. 

  • Build your resume, gain experience and enhance and amplify your transferable skills for your future employment endeavours 


  • Must be between 18 and 29 years of age

  • Completed Ontario Secondary School Diploma/ Equivalent or enrolled in Post- Secondary Education

  • Have a passion or educational experience in Psychology, Mental Health, Addictions, Harm Reduction, Child and Youth studies, Social Work or related fields 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Creative outlook and can navigate technology well an asset

  • Previous experience working with youth or community organizations an asset

  • Previous experience in project development or planning an asset 

  • Ability to speak other languages an asset

  • Must be available a minimum of two days per week for up to 4 hours each day from August 2020- December 2020

  • If travel is required, transportation costs will be reimbursed.
