Young Women in Business (YWiB) Toronto is an inclusive and diverse non-profit organization, dedicated to helping young women-identified individuals to succeed professionally and personally. Fully volunteer-based, we do this by empowering them with the knowledge, resources and support to reach their fullest potential; overcome barriers, and achieve success - on their own terms.

The Role: 

Young Women in Business Toronto is currently looking for a well-rounded and self-driven event planner for their Vice President of Events role. Reporting to the organization's President, the candidate will be an integral member of the executive team, by leading and growing one of YWiB's key portfolios.

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Works with the senior executive team to conceptualize YWiB Toronto's overall event-related initiatives, strengthen its brand presence, implement sustainability measures, and strategize its growth.

  • Creates the department's yearly, monthly and weekly calendars; delegates, oversees, and monitors their implementation; takes on executional duties when required.

  • Leads, fosters and coaches a growing team of young event planners; helps evaluate their performance; identifies resourcing needs, and team development opportunities. 

  • Fosters open and transparent communications within departments; acts as their department's Subject Matter expert; takes on cross-departmental duties when required.

  • Strategizes the goals for the Events Portfolio and ensures successful execution.

  • Collects and dissects event metrics to build on and improve events and programming.

  • Leads weekly team meetings; represents the events team in weekly leadership team meetings, and during biweekly Chapter's team meetings.

  • Works on collaborative solutions in a positive and efficient manner; leads by example.

  • Passion for help us continue to build an inclusive community; committed to proactively seeking to increase diversity among our community members.

Skills/Characteristics that we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge and passion for YWiB’s mission

  • Experience and commitment to working with and supporting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour), women- self-identified individuals, trans, Two-Spirit, gender non-binary and non-conforming people and communities.

  • Proven leadership and hands-on experience in Event Planning, with the confidence to guide other departments when necessary.

  • Demonstrable experience designing, implementing and executing low cost events.

  • Proven knowledge of, and experience in event planning, its life cycle and associated elements: budgeting, timelines, marketing, vendor management, etc.

  • An entrepreneur and intrapreneur at heart, who enjoys building things from the ground up and foster the development of other women

  • A masterful event planner who takes pride in a job well done and on their team's growth.

  • Mission driven and community focused; self-driven & self-starter; well developed organizational & team management skills.

  • Confident and dynamic personality; hands-on approach and experience

  • Thoughtful & effective communicator; calm under pressure; well developed written and verbal communication skills; healthy sense of humour.

  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal selling skills.

  • Passion for women’s empowerment, career advancement, and personal improvement; previous involvement with women-focused feminist organizations a plus.

  • Enjoys working independently, and as part of a diverse and inclusive team.

  • Ability to act as an ambassador of YWiB in the community.

This volunteer position requires a commitment of 1 year.

The successful candidate must attend our team meetings, support the successful execution of events and programs, work with our team for idea contribution, and complete independent work. Time commitment will vary between 8-15 hours a week, not including bi-weekly team meetings and weekly leadership status calls.
